Bacchus Brewing was all over Brewsvegas with fifty beers – twenty-five of them new – around the town. Ross Kenrick and his motley team have five 50L and one 100L kettles at their disposal and can push through twelve completely different beers in a day. The results are some of Brisbane’s best and weirdest beers. Craison, the crayfish infused saison, anyone? Or a hibiscus and rosella sour ale? So to today’s beer. It’s rather unassuming looking which I tried for the first time at […]
Yandina Brewing Company is really hard to find information about. There’s not much on Google, except for a couple of social media pages. I clicked through and found a profile, which implied that it was associated with a wine store in Fortitude Valley. I think I emailed the right person but I didn’t receive a response. I was looking for a bit of context, like where Goofy Foot is brewed. The side of the bottle only lists a postal box number […]
I’m a big fan of the Sunshine Coast. If I didn’t have economic constraints that necessitate my habitation of Brisbane (i.e. a job), I’d pack my bags, try and find a shack on the side of Montville and take up surfing. However, short of winning the lottery, I’m likely to stay put. In the meantime, I do occasionally travel up and down the Bruce Highway for work. On my last trip to Maryborough, I spent thirty-five whole minutes tracking down Sunshine […]
In keeping with this week’s theme, Queensland Beer Week, this week’s review is naturally for a beer heralding from the Sunshine State. Burleigh Brewing began in 2007; fast track six years and you have an operation that currently brews seven regular beers and two limited releases. Over-achievers much! Their My Wife’s Bitter was first brewed as a limited edition but its success soon earned it a place amongst their regular beers.
For Drunkspec’s Origin Week, I had intended to review XXXX Gold that had been specifically blessed by Queensland great, Billy Moore, as seen in this amusing advertorial. Mr Moore is probably more famous for his rousing cheer of “Queenslander” at halftime of the first game in ’95 (and his punch-ons during that series) than his football. Watching the clip out of context, it seems like he’s a bit of a lone nutjob but it has become part of Origin lore. […]
That’s not the usual glassware I use for the review photos. Unfortunately, the schooners are unwashed and I am presently engaged in a battle with my housemates over doing the dishes. My position is that I should wash what I use. Their position seems to be that they’re not going to wash any dishes at all. Obviously, this will be difficult to reconcile, especially as I am a not very confrontational person. The only winner is likely to be the […]
If you’ve never been, Burleigh Heads is an extremely nice, if bit-too-popular, spot on the Gold Coast. It’s also the site of Burleigh Brewing. The Brisbane Times had a good run down on the background of the company and where it’s heading. Meanwhile, I will probably remember Burleigh for that time I did a really shitty park job that pissed off a local bogan when I got too close to his penile compensation.
